Silverudds Blue

Black/Blue/Splash Silverudd’s Blue:  Created by Martin Silverudd, a Swedish pastor, to be a productive homestead egg layer.  This breed is the only single combed breed that lays a lovely light green egg (often with speckles).  Egg sizes varies from large to extra large, and our hens are our most reliable layers through winter.  

We DNA tested our flock, via the American Silverudd’s Blue Association, and confirmed our flock is 100% homozygous for the blue egg gene.  This ensures all offspring will lay some form of green egg (no tan egg layers).

We select for early sexing (gender known by 3-4 weeks based on comb/wattle development), conformation conducive to a productive egg layer, egg size/color/speckles, easy going personilities, active foraging instincts, lack of broodiness, and roosters with excellent manners and guarding instincts.  If you want a well-mannered gentleman for your hens, Silverudd’s Blue roosters will not let you down!
